WHAT WE PROVIDE

Podcast

Combatting poverty must be approached in a variety of ways. The first is through education and inspiring the public to understand the importance of this issue, and how they can get involved in their own communities. The Combatting Poverty in New Mexico podcast aims to educate the general public about issues contributing to poverty and how we can combat it in New Mexico. The show will have the following primary focuses:

  1. Education, bringing in experts from various fields and discussing the diverse aspects of poverty. The education portion of this show answers the question, “What do New Mexican listeners need to know about this topic?”

  2. Stories, giving a voice to those directly impacted by poverty, and highlighting their experiences. The stories portion of this show answer the question, “Why should New Mexican listeners care about poverty if they are not directly suffering from it’s effects?”

  3. Partnerships, establishing inter-organizational relationships with other public services and programs aimed at reducing poverty. The partnership portion of this show answers the question, “What can New Mexican listeners do to get involved and where can they volunteer/contribute in order to make an impact?”

  4. Advocacy, dismantling systems that uphold income inequality and making change on a legislative level by working directly with state representative. The advocacy portion of this show answers the question, “What can New Mexican listeners do to prevent poverty and income inequality from occurring in the first place?”

Services

The second way to approach combatting poverty is to provide services and support to those in need. People suffering from poverty need immediate resources, and our organization can help to coordinate, organize, and distribute these services through partnering and bringing attention to other non profits. While the materials, funds, and resources of this organization may be limited by our fundraising efforts, the possibility of partnering with other service-providing organizations is limitless.

Advocacy

Finally, combatting poverty must be approached on a legal and institutional level. Poverty does not occur naturally, and is a direct result of income inequality. Dismantling the systems that create, contribute to, and uphold poverty is treating the disease, not they symptom, as it were, on a statewide level. Our organization will make efforts to work with legislators and lawmakers on local and state wide levels in order to implement change in the favor of equality amongst all New Mexicans.
